A family dog, described as very gentle, has been photographed following a tragic incident where it fatally attacked a 19-year-old girl. The girl, Jamie-Lea Biscoe, was fatally mauled by the dog, identified as a seven-year-old blue merle lurcher named Shy, at their residence in Leaden Roding, Essex, at 10:45 pm last Friday.
Upon returning home, Jamie-Lea’s father, Jack Biscoe, discovered a distressing scene in his bedroom where his daughter had collapsed with a severe neck bite. Police arrived to find the teenager with critical injuries, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The dog, believed to be responsible for the attack, was subsequently taken into custody by law enforcement.
Jack revealed that Shy, acquired as a puppy, was Jamie-Lea’s cherished companion. He expressed shock at the tragic turn of events, emphasizing that the incident highlighted the unpredictable nature of dogs, irrespective of their breed. Jack recounted the heartbreaking moment he found Jamie-Lea lifeless and injured, with Shy also turning aggressive towards him during his attempts to revive his daughter.
In the midst of the chaos, Shy bit off part of Jack’s ear and inflicted wounds on his arms. Jack’s other two dogs, Bella and Mouse, were present in the house during the incident. Following the tragedy, all three dogs were taken into custody, and Jack was detained on suspicion of negligence related to a dog causing fatal harm. He was later released on bail pending further investigations.
Neighbors expressed deep sorrow for the family, describing the incident as tragic and shocking. Essex Police’s Assistant Chief Constable, Stuart Hooper, extended condolences to Jamie-Lea’s loved ones and assured ongoing efforts to determine the exact sequence of events. He urged respect for the family’s privacy during this challenging period and encouraged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
This unforeseen loss has left a profound impact on the community, with many struggling to comprehend the tragedy and offering support to the grieving family.
