Statistics Canada has reported that a significant number of drivers entered Canada via the Gordie Howe International Bridge in the days immediately following its opening. The highly anticipated bridge, connecting Windsor and Detroit, finally opened to traffic on July 27 after experiencing delays.
According to initial data from StatCan, there were approximately 18,900 return trips made by Canadian residents from the United States through the Gordie Howe bridge during its first five days of operation. Similarly, 18,100 U.S. residents crossed the bridge into Canada during the same timeframe.
In addition, the other border crossings in the area, including the Ambassador Bridge and the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel, recorded a total of 52,700 inbound trips by both Canadians and U.S. residents during the same period.
Furthermore, StatCan reported that 4,100 commercial transport trucks entered Canada via the Gordie Howe bridge in the last five days of July.
